A traveler heading home from the US to the Philippines stopped over in Seoul. The plan: a few days in the city, a side trip to Japan, then back through Seoul for the flight to Manila. Japan was meant to be a light trip. The problem was the big luggage — there was nowhere obvious to leave it in the meantime.

International students run into the same wall. Going home for the break means emptying your room, but the place you come back to is a different one. In both cases, the spot where you drop your bags and the spot where you want them back aren’t the same.

The short answer

  • You can store luggage in Seoul for weeks at a time. KPLANZ at Hongik University Station picks bags up from where you're staying, stores them, and delivers them to a different address on the day you choose.
  • Pickup and delivery cover Seoul and the wider capital area, and you can leave Korea while your bags are in storage.
  • Mid-storage you can take items out, add more, or have part of it delivered. There's no fixed maximum period — you get a quote after a short consultation.

Can you store luggage in Seoul for several weeks?

Yes — but not in a coin locker or a station counter. You need a service that handles pickup, storage and delivery in one go. Subway lockers and station storage are priced for a few hours, a few days at most. If you only need a few hours, our Seoul luggage storage price comparison is the better read.

Weeks are a different story. Just hauling everything to a storage counter is a chore, and by the time you want it back you’re often staying in another neighborhood entirely. KPLANZ collects your luggage from your accommodation in its own vehicle, keeps it in its own storage space, and delivers it to your next place on the agreed date. You can also drop off or collect in person at the shop by Hongik University Station Exit 3.

It suits these people best:

🎓
Exchange & language students
Have to empty the dorm over the break or between terms, and move into a different room next term.
💻
Working holiday & digital nomads
Hop between monthly rentals often, and dragging everything along each time gets old fast.
✈️
Seoul-based travelers
Leave the big bags in Seoul, travel light to Japan or Southeast Asia, then come back through Seoul.
🧳
Gap before departure
Checked out of the last place, but the flight home is days or weeks away.

Can the pickup and delivery addresses be different?

Yes. Within Seoul and the capital area, pickup and delivery addresses can be set separately. Three routes come up again and again.

🗺️ Three common routes for weeks-long luggage storage

SituationPicked up fromWhile in storageReturned to
① Student emptying a room for the breakCurrent dorm or roomThe break spent back homeNext term’s accommodation
② Using Seoul as a base for trips abroadFirst place in SeoulWhile you’re in Japan or Southeast AsiaWhere you stay after returning to Seoul
③ Gap between checkout and departureLast accommodationFrom checkout until just before the flightYour pre-flight stay, or the Hongdae shop

① Dorm → storage → new place

This is the most common case: a student heading home for the break. One student left luggage with KPLANZ for the trip home, then their accommodation changed before they came back — so they simply asked for delivery to the new address. You don’t need to know the return address on the day you drop off; just pass on the new one when it’s settled.

② First stay → storage → new stay after returning to Seoul

That’s the traveler from the top of this story. Bags were picked up from the first place in Seoul, Japan was done with a small carry-on, and everything was delivered to the hotel booked for the return to Seoul — the last stop before flying home. If your trip loops back through Seoul anyway, leaving the luggage here makes both flights and transfers far easier.

③ Last stay → storage → pre-flight stay or the shop

Your monthly rental ends, but you still have a few weeks of travel in Korea before flying out. Have the luggage delivered to wherever you sleep the night before departure, or pick it up yourself at the Hongdae shop. The shop sits by Hongik University Station Exit 3, so you can grab your bags and ride AREX (Airport Railroad) straight to Incheon Airport from the same station. Ideas for spending that last half-day are in Hongdae half-day before your flight.

Give your next stay a heads-up

Your bags may arrive before check-in time. Ask the hotel or guesthouse front desk — or the dorm office — whether they can accept a delivery on your behalf. It makes matching the delivery time much easier.

Can I store boxes and bedding, not just suitcases?

Mostly, yes. When you store for weeks, the load is usually more life than luggage. A student clearing out a dorm might have bedding, winter clothes, books and a box of kitchen things. These are picked up and stored just like suitcases. Only two kinds of items are refused.

📦 What you can and can't store

You can storeYou can’t store
Suitcases, backpacks, duffel bagsPerishables such as food
Moving boxes (clothes, books, household items)Fragile items such as glass, ceramics and framed pictures
Bedding, pillows, seasonal clothes

Can I take things out or add more while it’s in storage?

Yes. Mid-storage you can take some items out, add more, or have only the bags you need delivered first. Plans change over a few weeks — a service that locks everything away until the end would be a lot less useful.

Arrange these the same way as the original booking: share the date and address and talk it through with the shop.

How do I book long-term luggage storage?

Fill in the route, dates and bag details on the KPLANZ quote request page and you’ll get a total quote back. It takes four steps.

Inquiries are handled on weekdays, 10:00–17:00 Korea time; weekends and public holidays are by appointment. Leave whichever contact suits you — Instagram ID, WhatsApp number or email.

Not sure about your return date yet?

There's no upper limit on the storage period, so if your plans might shift, say so in the notes field and start with a consultation. For students this is normal — visa extensions and next-term housing often get settled late.

Isn’t self-storage better if it’s a few months?

If you have a room’s worth of stuff and need several months, self-storage may well be the better fit. With self-storage you rent a unit and move things in and out yourself. If it’s a few suitcases and boxes for a few weeks, though, a pickup-and-delivery service saves you all the hauling.

⚖️ Pickup-and-delivery storage vs self-storage

ComparePickup-and-delivery storageSelf-storage
Moving your stuffPicked up from your stay, delivered to the nextYou move it, or book a van separately
Best for volumeA few suitcases and boxesA room’s worth or more
Best for durationWeeksMonths or longer
Getting things out mid-storageRequest partial pickup, additions or partial deliveryWalk in yourself during access hours

Bottom line: if moving it yourself is a hassle or the return address differs from the pickup address, go with pickup-and-delivery. If it's more than a room's worth, for months, and you need to get in almost daily, self-storage is the better match.

What should I sort out before storing my luggage?

Make a list of what you’re storing, and pull out anything you’ll need soon plus all valuables. You can retrieve items mid-storage, but not while you’re abroad — so sort things before you leave.

Pre-storage checklist

  • List and photos: note what's in each bag or box and photograph the outside.
  • Number every box: write your name and a number in large letters so you can check nothing's missing on return.
  • Keep valuables and documents with you: passport, residence card, visa and school paperwork, laptop and cash stay with you.
  • Pull out what you'll use: clothes for wherever you're going, chargers and adapters, regular medication, student ID.
  • Remove perishables and fragile items: leftover food, glassware and picture frames.
  • Leave a contact that works abroad: WhatsApp, Instagram or email you can check even after your Korean SIM lapses.

When should students book storage for the school break?

As soon as your dorm move-out date is set. Students at the same school tend to move out on the same days, so pickup slots fill up right before the break. The table below shows the typical shape of the Korean university and language-school calendar — dates vary by school, so always check your own academic calendar.

📅 Korean university and language-school breaks vs storage periods

Winter break is the longest and the busiest. If you’re moving out in December, getting in touch during November makes it much easier to secure the pickup date you want.
