Most visitors know Yongin as a bus ride to Everland and back. Koreans know it by an old saying: saenggeo Jincheon, sahu Yongin — “live in Jincheon, rest in Yongin after death.” The hills south of Seoul were prized as burial ground, and the graves of Goryeo loyalist Jeong Mong-ju and the reformer Jo Gwang-jo are both here.
The modern city is a sprawl of over a million people, from the high-rise suburbs of Suji and Giheung in the west to rice fields and pig farms in Cheoin-gu to the east. The good news for a visitor: the theme parks, a reconstructed Joseon village, a Samsung-founded art museum and one of the country’s best-known sundae towns all sit inside the same city limits.
The short answer
- Where: directly south of Seoul, past Seongnam. Direct buses run from Gangnam and Seoul Station to the Korean Folk Village, and Everland has its own direct bus from Seoul Station (see our Bus 4105 guide).
- Best for: theme-park days with kids, Joseon history you can walk through, and a quiet art-and-garden afternoon.
- Must-see: Everland or the Korean Folk Village, plus the Hoam Museum of Art and its Hee Won garden (advance booking only).
- Must-eat: Baekam sundae soup in Baekam-myeon, and perilla-oil buckwheat noodles in Suji.
How do you get to Yongin from Seoul?
By direct bus for the big sights, and by Suin-Bundang Line plus a short connection for everything else. Yongin is large, so “getting to Yongin” really means picking which corner. The theme parks are in Pogok-eup in the middle, the Folk Village and Nam June Paik Art Center are in Giheung-gu in the west, and Baekam is out in the far east.
🚌 Seoul to Yongin's main sights (official operator pages; Everland times as reported)
| Destination | From Seoul | Route | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Everland | Seoul Station Bus Transfer Center | Bus 4105, no transfers | Started August 1, 2026; stops at Myeongdong and Itaewon on the way |
| Everland | Gangnam | Bus 5002 | Long-running express bus |
| Everland | Any Suin-Bundang Line station | Change at Giheung to the EverLine, ride to Jeondae·Everland | The old default; slower than the direct bus |
| Korean Folk Village | Sinnonhyeon / Gangnam / Seoul Station | Buses 5001-1 / 1560 / 4101 | Get off at “Hanguk Minsokchon” or “Minsokchon Ipgu” |
| Korean Folk Village | Sanggal Station (Suin-Bundang Line) | Bus 37 or 10-5 from Exit 3 | One transfer |
| Nam June Paik Art Center | Sanggal Station | Walk from Exit 4, about 10 minutes | Gyeonggi Provincial Museum is next door |
| Hoam Museum of Art | Everland | Museum shuttle from Everland bus stop “0” | Suspended in winter and between special exhibitions |
According to Everland’s operator Samsung C&T, as reported by Dailian in July 2026, bus 4105 reaches Everland in about an hour, 40–50 minutes faster than the old bus-and-subway combination. Our Bus 4105 guide covers the stops and the catches. Baekam is the one place where a car really helps; Korea Tourism Organization puts it about 17 minutes’ drive from Deokpyeong IC on the Yeongdong Expressway.
What is Yongin known for?
Graves, theme parks and, more recently, chips. For centuries the city’s reputation was about where you were buried, not where you lived. Today Everland, the Folk Village and Caribbean Bay draw the crowds, and the eastern farmland of Cheoin-gu is being turned into a semiconductor mega-cluster — which is why you will see construction cranes in what still looks like countryside.
Yongin in four words
- 사후용인 sahu Yongin — "Yongin after death." The second half of the saying about Jincheon and Yongin. Jeong Mong-ju's tomb in Mohyeon-eup is the best-known example.
- 특례시 teungnyesi — "special city," the status Korea gives to cities of over a million people. Yongin is one of them, alongside Suwon and Goyang.
- 백암순대 Baekam sundae — the sausage of Baekam-myeon, a town that grew around a Joseon cattle market.
- 호암 Hoam — the pen name of Samsung's founder, Lee Byung-chul. Everland and the Hoam Museum both come from the same family; see our Samsung family guide.
What should you see in Yongin?
Pick one big park, then add one quiet stop. Everland and the Korean Folk Village each fill most of a day on their own. The Hoam Museum, Nam June Paik Art Center and Baekam are the half-day add-ons that most foreign visitors skip.
Everland (Pogok-eup) — We won’t repeat the ticket math here: our Bus 4105 guide covers getting there, afternoon tickets covers when to arrive, and winter with kids covers the cold-season version, including hiring a car with a driver.
Korean Folk Village (Giheung-gu) — A village of Joseon-era houses moved here from around the country, with performers playing villagers, magistrates and, lately, ghosts. Hours change with the season and events: on October 31, 2026 it was open 10:00–22:00 for the autumn night programme, which runs to November 15. Ticket types are compared in our Folk Village guide.
Hoam Museum of Art and Hee Won (Pogok-eup) — A short shuttle ride from Everland, but a different world: a lake, a pine-lined path and Hee Won, a traditional Korean garden of pavilions and walls, plus an outdoor stone garden and Lee Ufan’s meditation space. The 2026 Art Spectrum exhibition runs to December 27, 2026. Every visit must be booked in advance; there are no walk-ins.
Nam June Paik Art Center (Giheung-gu) — Paik, born in Seoul in 1932, is the man who turned televisions into sculpture. The center holds his works and archive, with free volunteer tours four times a day on weekends. Pair it with the Folk Village: both are in Giheung-gu, a short bus ride apart.
Baekam Market (Baegam-myeon) — Held on the 1st, 6th, 11th, 16th, 21st and 26th of each month. Korea Tourism Organization’s listing says it was once known for cattle, pigs and rice and is now known mostly for sundae; on non-market days the sundae shops still open.
Jeong Mong-ju’s Tomb (Mohyeon-eup) — Jeong Mong-ju stayed loyal to Goryeo and was killed in 1392 by the men about to found Joseon; he became the model of the faithful scholar. It is a quiet hillside visit, best combined with lunch at Yetteo nearby (below).

Where do locals eat in Yongin?
In sundae-soup houses in Baekam, noodle places on the roads around Everland, and tofu restaurants in the eastern villages. Restaurant hours below come from Korea Tourism Organization listings updated in 2025–2026; check Naver Map before a long drive.
Jeil Sikdang (Baegam-ro 201beon-gil 11, Baekam) — Open since 1964, a few steps from the market. It started out selling steamed buns before sundae took over. Order sundae-gukbap (sundae and pork in broth, rice already in the bowl), or share a plate of Baekam sundae and head meat with the house kimchi. A diner review from September 2026 put the soup at 11,000 won. Open 06:00–21:00 (last order 20:00); closed Wednesdays (if Wednesday is a public holiday it opens and closes Thursday instead).
Gogi-ri Makguksu (Yijongmu-ro 157, Suji-gu) — A buckwheat-noodle house in the hills above Suji, credited by its regulars with popularising deulgireum makguksu: cold buckwheat noodles tossed in perilla oil and eaten almost without broth. The broth version uses a light beef stock, and the boiled pork is worth adding. Expect a long queue on weekends and holidays; diners on the Polle app were still reporting waits in 2026.
Dubu Madang Pogok (Pogok-ro 339, Pogok-eup) — Handmade tofu about three minutes from Everland: the assorted tofu plate, tofu with boiled pork, or tofu hotpot. It was picked as a “tasty house” at the 3rd Yongin Food Culture Festival. Open daily 10:30–21:00.
Samidang Makguksu (Seokseong-ro 886, Pogok-eup) — On the road to Everland near Maseong IC. The buckwheat is ground on site, so the noodles are coarse and nutty; there is also a black-sesame version, potato pancakes, and handmade dumpling hotpot in the cold months. Open 10:30–21:00 with a 15:30–17:00 break; closed Sundays.
Yetteo (Neungwon-ro 132beon-gil 9, Mohyeon-eup) — Near Jeong Mong-ju’s tomb. The set to order is gondeure-bap (rice cooked with thistle greens from Jeongseon) with cheonggukjang, a pungent fermented soybean stew; Hanwoo beef is the splurge option, and there is perilla-oil makguksu too. Named a Gyeonggi “top restaurant” (경기으뜸맛집). Open daily 10:00–21:00, break 15:00–16:30.

How do you plan a day in Yongin?
Choose a side of the city and stay on it. Crossing from Giheung in the west to Baekam in the east takes the best part of an hour by car, and much longer by bus.
- West side, no car (art and Joseon): Suin-Bundang Line to Sanggal Station → Nam June Paik Art Center when it opens at 10:00 → bus 37 or 10-5 to the Korean Folk Village by noon → afternoon performances → stay for the night programme if it is running.
- Middle, park plus garden: bus 4105 to Everland for the morning → lunch at Dubu Madang or Samidang → a booked afternoon slot at the Hoam Museum and Hee Won (check that the Everland shuttle is running, or take a taxi).
- East side, by car: Jeong Mong-ju's tomb and lunch at Yetteo in Mohyeon → drive to Baekam, ideally on a date ending in 1 or 6 → sundae at Jeil Sikdang (not on a Wednesday).
Timing tips
- Monday is the wrong day for art: the Hoam Museum and Nam June Paik Art Center both close.
- Book Hoam early for autumn foliage weekends; slots open 14 days ahead at 10:00, four people per booking.
- Winter: the Everland–Hoam shuttle stops, so budget for a taxi. For a car-with-driver plan, see our regional car charter guide.
