The downsides: heavy weekend and peak-season traffic, and the longest commutes of any area when you head elsewhere.

Seomyeon feels less like a tourist zone, but it’s the most efficient base of the lot. Busan subway Lines 1 and 2 meet at Seomyeon Station, so both Haeundae (Line 2, about 25 minutes) and Nampo-dong (Line 1, about 14–16 minutes) are a single ride away. Room rates here are also said to run lower than in the beachfront areas.

There’s also an Arban Hotel about five minutes from Seomyeon Station, with listed rates starting at $104.10 — cheaper than the property above. The Avani Central Busan, a bit of a walk (about 17 minutes) from the station in the Munhyeon financial district, sits closer to the business area and suits work trips better than sightseeing.
Why are there no big hotels in Gwangalli on this list?
Background: Gwangalli skews toward officetel-style and small stays
Gwangalli is a night-view hotspot popular with travelers in their 20s and 30s, with the M Drone Light Show every Saturday evening (a standing show of 1,100 drones, twice nightly at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. in summer). That said, the source file for this post (24 Busan stays) contained not a single hotel that could be pinned to Gwangalli. Given the area's character, small officetel-style stays and boutique hotels outnumber big chains, so international booking platforms simply don't surface listings as densely as they do for Haeundae or Nampo-dong.
In short, if you want a Gwangalli stay, you’re better off searching officetel-style stays on Korean booking platforms. That said, the Gwangan Bridge night view and the drone show are free from anywhere along Gwangalli Beach — so you can also skip staying in Gwangalli entirely and just ride the subway in from Seomyeon or Nampo-dong for the evening.
Who should stay in Nampo-dong?
Nampo-dong puts you next to old-town favorites like Jagalchi Market, Gukje Market, and Bupyeong Kkangtong Market, plus the cruise terminal. The tourist infrastructure is more rough-and-ready than Haeundae’s, but room rates run relatively low.
