Most people choose a DMZ tour by asking “half-day or full-day?” — but the number of stops barely changes. The core of any Paju route is the same four places: the Third Tunnel, Dora Observatory, Dorasan Station, and the Unification Village, and nearly every product includes all of them. What actually changes is who covers the round trip from Seoul to Imjingak, and what gets layered on top.
So instead of dumping a price list, this post does two calculations. First, the hourly rate — list price divided by the duration shown on the booking site — set against the number of stops. Second, the conditions that trip people up before booking: minimum group size, ID checks, and departure times. Prices are as of August 2026, with USD prices converted at 1 USD ≈ ₩1,400.
Which option is actually pricier by the hour?
By the hour, a Seoul-departure join-in tour runs about 2.5 times the Imjingak shuttle bus. The table below simply divides Paju’s official fares by the durations shown on booking sites.

Fares use Paju’s official rates and the booking sites’ listed prices; durations are taken verbatim from each product page. For the “half-day” row, the price and the duration come from different booking sites, so treat that line as a rough ballpark by type. Private tours are priced per vehicle and the booking sites do not publish a per-person rate, so no hourly figure is given there.
Reckoned per stop, the gap points the same way. The shuttle bus works out to about ₩3,050 a stop; a Seoul-departure full-day join-in about ₩23,000. That roughly ₩80,000 difference is, in effect, the price of the round-trip vehicle, the guide, and having your entry handled for you.
Here is the takeaway. If you can get to Imjingak on your own and Korean-only guiding is fine, the shuttle bus is dramatically cheaper. On the other hand, if you need language support or cannot face getting to Imjingak early in the morning, that ₩80,000 is simply what you pay to buy the journey.
A full-day Seoul-departure route covering the Third Tunnel and Dora Observatory in one go
Both products bundle the Seoul round trip with Paju entry. Listed durations are 7 hours (KKday) and 9 hours (Klook); the 9-hour option adds a visit to the War Memorial of Korea in Seoul.
If you can drive to Imjingak yourself and Korean-only guiding works, the Paju shuttle bus (₩12,200) is all you need — no booking required. Listed prices as of August 2026.
How much does a self-guided trip to Imjingak actually cost?
Paju City’s DMZ Peace Tourism fare is ₩9,200 for the adult walking course and ₩12,200 with the monorail. That fare covers the Third Tunnel, Dora Observatory, Dorasan Station, and the Unification Village.

Add the gondola and it is still only ₩21,200. You would still pay your own round-trip transport from Seoul to Imjingak, but the gap versus join-in tour prices remains huge.
When you can skip booking entirely
- You can drive to Imjingak — private cars cannot enter the control zone, but you can park at Imjingak and transfer to the shuttle bus.
- Korean-only guiding is fine — a big chunk of a join-in tour price pays for the English, Chinese, and Japanese guides.
- It is not a Monday — Paju's DMZ Peace Tourism does not operate on Mondays or during Seollal and Chuseok.
- You can buy tickets before 14:30 — the ticket office runs 09:00–14:30, and the shuttle bus runs 09:20–15:00 on weekdays and 09:20–15:30 on weekends.
What actually gets cut from a half-day versus a full-day tour?
What gets cut is not the Paju stops — it is the Seoul schedule and add-on stops around them. Even when a product is called “half-day,” the booking site often lists the duration from 7 hours up, so building your afternoon around the name alone will throw you off.

Even with identical stops, a product that adds a talk by a North Korean defector is a different beast. A standard day tour listed around USD 50 and a tour with a defector Q&A session visit the same places — the latter simply layers human stories on top.
A shorter option that tacks on the Gamaksan Suspension Bridge
A package listed around USD 45 ≈ ₩63,000 that adds the red suspension bridge to the Third Tunnel and Dora Observatory. Note that listed durations start at 7 hours depending on the product and option, so always check the booking screen.
The suspension bridge can be dropped due to military circumstances or weather, and some products state there is no refund in that case. If the bridge is your goal, skip the booking. As of August 2026.
What conditions do you have to clear before booking?
The most common snag is ID verification. Without a passport or photo ID, you simply will not get into the control zone.

A full-day option that rolls into Dorasan Station by rail
Listed at 9 hours 30 minutes with free cancellation up to 5 days before. You have to match Korail's Peace Train operating days, so date flexibility is nearly zero.
Unless the train itself is the draw, there is no real reason to pick this one — the stops are basically the same as the bus routes. Operating schedule as of August 2026.
Can you actually visit Panmunjom (JSA) right now?
General tours are not running. They were suspended after the July 2023 unauthorized crossing, and only the special tour run by the Ministry of Unification reopened in May 2025. That special tour cut its capacity from 40 to 20 people and now views Panmunjom from the rooftop of the Freedom House instead of the Military Armistice Commission conference room.
Do not misread the "JSA" in product names
Even when "JSA" appears in a tour title, it usually means the JSA museum or exhibition hall — not entry into the Panmunjom Joint Security Area itself. Check the itinerary on the booking screen: if it only lists Dora Observatory, the Third Tunnel, and an exhibition hall, you have your answer.
Can you also see North Korea from Gimpo or Ganghwa instead of Paju?
Yes, and admission is far cheaper. Gimpo’s Aegibong and Ganghwa’s Jejeokbong Peace Observatory run separately from Paju’s control-zone route.

Both are awkward to reach by public transit, so they are often bundled into vehicle-based products. On the Gimpo side there is an Aegibong observatory package; on the Ganghwa side, a private tour built around the observatory. But keep the math honest: with admission at just ₩3,000 and ₩2,500, the vehicle fee is effectively the whole cost.
A private vehicle with Camp Greaves added to the route
Listed as 08:00 Seoul hotel pickup, 09:20 arrival at Imjingak, and ~17:20 drop-off. It includes Camp Greaves, which the join-in tours do not.
Private tours are priced per vehicle, so the per-person cost spikes when your group is small. For 2–3 people who can handle the queues, a join-in tour is the sensible choice. As of August 2026.
When is it better not to book at all?
When there is no reason to book a tour
- You can reach Imjingak on your own and Korean-only guiding is fine — the ₩12,200 shuttle bus covers all 4 stops.
- You want to go inside Panmunjom — general tours have not resumed, so no product will get you in.
- The suspension bridge or gondola is your main goal — these can be dropped for military or weather reasons, and some products will not refund you.
- Your plan falls on a Monday — Paju's DMZ Peace Tourism is closed, and you may be switched to an alternate route.
- You tend to leave your passport at the hotel — without passing the ID check, you cannot enter the control zone at all.
Paju routes do not differ much from product to product. So when choosing, ignore the stop list and check three things instead: the listed duration, the minimum group size for your language, and the free-cancellation deadline. If those three line up, you will mostly be seeing the same places anyway.
