The short answer
- Search "Express Bus Terminal restaurants" and the top three results are all inside the mall — Famille Station and Shinsegae. Walk 100 meters out any exit and the rankings flip completely.
- Locals cluster around three zones: Exit 8-2 — Banpo Shopping Town & Banwon Arcade (1–10 min walk), Line 9 to Gu-Banpo Station (one stop), and Line 9 to Sinbanpo Station · Seorae Village (one stop + 10 min walk).
- Do not trust old blog posts blindly — you will walk to a construction site. Most of Gu-Banpo's veteran joints were scattered by redevelopment in 2021–2022. I've mapped the moves below.
Why does every “Express Bus Terminal food” search end inside a department store?
Because the search rankings tilt hard toward the mall. The top three results for “Express Bus Terminal Station restaurants” on Dining Code are Beton (bakery) · Poby (bagels) · Dim Dim Sum (dim sum) — all three are inside Famille Station and Shinsegae Gangnam, physically attached to the terminal building. Their search volume and review counts ride the mall’s foot traffic, which creates a structural distortion.
Meanwhile, within the same station radius sit Banpo Shopping Town (Buildings 1–6) basement arcade, Jamwon-dong’s Banwon Arcade, and the apartment shopping blocks of Gu-Banpo and Sinbanpo one subway stop away — the pockets where Seocho-gu residents have been eating for over 40 years. This guide strips away every single mall tenant and ranks only the 15 spots outside the exits.
Pick your exit first — the three-zone map of Express Bus Terminal
Express Bus Terminal Station is a three-line knot — Lines 3, 7, and 9 — with over 20 exits. The exit you take depends entirely on where you’re headed. Pick the wrong one and you’ll spend an extra 10 minutes walking underground.
🧭 Which exit for which zone
| Zone | How to get there | Time | What’s here |
|---|---|---|---|
| Banpo Shopping Town basement | Exit 8-1 or 8-2, right outside | 1–3 min walk | Heart Time, Ilbeonji Yukgaejang, Jangteo Sundaeguk |
| Jamwon-dong Banwon Arcade | Exit 8-2 → toward Jamwon-dong | 5–10 min walk | Gammiok, Hanshin Chicken Hof, Banwon Kalguksu |
| Gu-Banpo Hanshin Arcade | Line 9 Gu-Banpo Station 1 stop → Exit 3 | 2 min subway + 5 min walk | Miso’s House, Banpojip |
| Toward Sapyeong Station | Exit 3 → toward Banpo Bridge | 10+ min walk | Banpo Chicken |
| Seorae Village | Line 9 Sinbanpo Station 1 stop → Exit 4 | 2 min subway + 10 min walk | Hôtel Douce, Maillet, Artisan Bakers, and more |
| Hangang Banpo District | Exit 8-1 → toward Hangang Park | 15 min walk | Café Dolce (Sebitseom) |
Traveler's Tip
- Don't walk to Seorae Village from Express Bus Terminal — take Line 9 one stop to Sinbanpo Station. It's faster. Exit 4 puts you right at Kim Young-mo Patisserie, and from there it's a gentle, uphill-free stroll into the café alley.
- The Seocho 13 village bus is the only route that cuts through Seorae Village. The "Samsung Raemian" stop shares the same name in both directions — make sure you're on the Isu Station-bound platform before you board.
- Lose track of your exit number when surfacing from the underground arcade and you'll pop up on the wrong block. Exits 8-1 and 8-2 sit side by side, but the others are spaced 400 meters or more apart.
8 old-guard spots locals actually eat at — ranked
The ranking weighs four things: ① years in business ② Dining Code scores and review volume ③ TV and media appearances ④ walking distance from Express Bus Terminal Station. I excluded all mall tenants, franchises, and anything that opened after 2015.

#1 — Miso's House (est. 1981)
The headliner is twigim-sundae — glass-noodle blood sausage fried crisp without batter — but the dish regulars actually swear by is the post-tteokbokki fried rice you make in the leftover sauce. Instant tteokbokki ₩5,000, twigim-sundae ₩5,000 — the cheapest on this list. They take a break from 14:30 to 16:00 and close on Mondays, so time your arrival.
#2 — Hanshin Chicken Hof
An outdoor chicken joint tucked into the Banwon Arcade apartment block in Jamwon-dong. Dining Code ranks it #1 among old-guard spots in the Banpo-Jamwon area at 83 points, with the thickest review pool in the neighborhood. Fried chicken ₩21,000 plus a bubbling pot of spicy clam sujebi ₩10,000 — this pairing is essentially the house set. Expect a wait in the evening.
#3 — Gammiok (~40 years)
300m from Exit 8-2 — the most accessible nopo on this list. By day it’s a home-cooking joint: galbitang ₩12,000, ssambap, and jjigae lunch sets. Come evening, the charcoal grill fires up and it becomes a pork ribs and samgyeopsal house. Open every day — the answer when you need a meal on a Sunday or a public holiday and everything else is shut.
#4–5 — Banpo Shopping Town Building 5 Basement (Heart Time · Ilbeonji Yukgaejang)
Two spots side by side in the same basement corridor. 97 meters from Exit 8-2 — the closest food to the station on this list. Heart Time is a retro rice-and-beer joint frozen in its 1980s–90s pub interior: kimchi fried rice ₩9,000, charcoal-broiled tonkatsu ₩11,000, open until 12:30 AM. Next door, Ilbeonji Yukgaejang has “yukgaejang” on the sign but nakgop-jeongol (octopus + tripe hot pot) on more tables — and the walls are a shrine of Doosan Bears player signatures and jerseys.

#6 — Banpo Chicken (est. 1976/77)
A whole chicken, roasted in an electric oven — no deep fryer — finished with a garlic glaze: garlic chicken ₩22,000. Originally housed in the old Gu-Banpo arcade, this place was once the living room of Seoul poets and novelists. It moved when redevelopment hit. These days, people come less for the flavor and more for the 1980s beer-hall air that still hangs in the room.
#7–8 — Banpo Yangjagang · Banpojip
Banpo Yangjagang is a 30-year-old Chinese restaurant in the basement right outside Line 7 Banpo Station Exit 6. The draw: Hong Kong-style dim sum, made in-house, ₩7,000–8,000 per basket. Banpojip runs on a single menu item — sujebi ₩7,000 — and keeps brutally short hours: weekdays 11 AM to 3 PM only. A word of caution: I couldn’t find any operating records for Banpojip past 2024. Call ahead before you go.

Why trusting old blog posts will send you to a construction site — the Gu-Banpo relocation map
The Banpo Jugong Complex 1 redevelopment emptied the Gu-Banpo arcades practically overnight between 2021 and 2022. Search “Gu-Banpo restaurants” and the top results still date from before 2021. Follow those addresses and you’ll be standing in front of a construction fence or a brand-new apartment tower.
🚚 Where four legendary Gu-Banpo spots landed
| Name | Original location | Now | From Express Bus Terminal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple House (instant tteokbokki · muchim-mandu) | Banpo-dong 978, Building L | Isu Station (Chongshin Univ.), near Exit 13 | Outside radius — Line 7, 3 stops |
| Smile Pocha (aged-kimchi dakbokkeumtang) | Gu-Banpo Arcade | Bangbae-dong Café Street | Outside radius |
| Heungmi Myeonok (Hamheung naengmyeon · handmade mandu) | Gu-Banpo Arcade, Building L | Bangbae Hamjibak Intersection | Outside radius |
| Banpo Chicken (garlic chicken) | Sinbanpo-ro 38, Banpo Arcade Block J | Gomurae-ro 8-gil (near Banpo Mido 1-cha) | Inside radius — toward Exit 3 |
Background
Gu-Banpo (Banpo Jugong Complex 1, Districts 1·2·4) was one of Seoul's first large-scale apartment complexes, completed in 1973. Over 40 years, the basement arcades accumulated layers of snack bars and beer joints — that was the original ecosystem of this neighborhood's nopo culture. When relocation began in late 2021, that ecosystem scattered in a single wave. This is why the density of old-guard spots still standing within the Express Bus Terminal radius isn't what it used to be.
7 cafés & bakeries — Seorae Village and its edges
The café scene isn’t right outside Express Bus Terminal. It clusters around Sinbanpo Station and Seorae Village, one stop away on Line 9. Dining Code’s distance data confirms: seven of Seorae Village’s most popular bakeries fit inside a 350-meter radius. Walk it once and you’ll pass them all.

- Monday: Artisan Bakers and Miso's House are closed.
- Weekends: Banpojip (sujebi) is closed. Even on weekdays it only runs 11 AM–3 PM.
- Early riser? Le Mang Doré and Kim Young-mo open at 8 AM — your only options. Most Seorae Village cafés don't open until 10 or 11.
- Hôtel Douce and Kim Young-mo Sinbanpo have almost no seating. If you want to sit and stay a while, head to Munsell Coffee or Le Mang Doré.
Why Kim Young-mo Patisserie made this list
The Sinbanpo branch sits directly outside Line 9 Sinbanpo Station Exit 4 — one stop from Express Bus Terminal. Fair warning: it’s a takeout counter with no seats. Grab your pastry and walk it into Seorae Village, or carry it all the way to Hangang Park.
How to hit everything in Seorae Village inside 350 meters
Per Dining Code distance data: Hôtel Douce ↔ Le Mang Doré is within 20 meters, Hôtel Douce ↔ Maillet is 134 meters, Le Mang Doré ↔ Artisan Bakers is 180 meters, Artisan Bakers ↔ Seorae Cake is 82 meters. Come out Sinbanpo Station Exit 4, pass Kim Young-mo, and enter the Seorae Village café pocket — you’ll stroll past five or six spots in under an hour.

Want coffee with a view of the Han River? — Café Dolce (Sebitseom)
Come out Exit 8-1 and walk toward Banpo Hangang Park for about 15 minutes and you’ll reach Sebitseom — the artificial floating islands on the river. As of July 2026, Café Dolce is the only café operating on the islands; the rest are restaurants and bars. Don’t trust old blog posts listing previous tenants — most have changed. Americano ₩4,800, Sebit Hangang Lemonade ₩7,500.
