How long does it take, and how much does it cost, from Seoul?

Daegu wins on both time and fare. Gyeongju’s Singyeongju Station sits a little outside the city center, so getting into town adds a bit of time, while Yeosu is simply far — the longest trip of the three.

With SRT, Daegu is reached from Suseo Station in about 1h 40m, with a standard-class fare of ₩36,800. Of the three, Daegu carries the lightest travel load, so it’s easy to fit into even a short itinerary.

Gyeongju — why is it called a walkable heritage district?

Because Cheomseongdae, Daereungwon, and Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond sit clustered in the heart of downtown Gyeongju, all reachable on foot. Bulguksa and Seokguram, by contrast, are outside the city, so you need a separate bus trip.

Once you get into the city from the bus terminal or Singyeongju Station, you can string Cheomseongdae, Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, and Daereungwon together on foot. Daegu — what does "city and food" actually mean?

It means Daegu isn’t a single heritage site like Gyeongju, but a downtown-style destination where markets, modern-era alleys, and shopping streets overlap. Seomun Market is a nationwide market dating back to the late Joseon era, and the Modern History Alley Tour is split into five courses — the 4th course (Samdeok-Bongsan Culture Road) runs through the National Debt Repayment Movement Memorial Park, Samdeok-dong Culture Street, Kim Gwang-seok Street, Bongsan Culture Street, Daegu Hyanggyo, and Geondeulbawi. Dongseong-ro is the shopping-and-food strip.

Yeosu — how are the maritime cable car and the night sea different?

Yeosu’s strength isn’t heritage or markets — it’s the night view over the water. The Yeosu Maritime Cable Car runs a 1.5 km round trip between Jasan Park and Dolsan Park with 50 cabins, and boarding about 30 minutes before sunset is the known trick for catching the night view as well. The Dolsan Bridge lighting, the cable car, and the Romantic Pocha street (night food stalls, relocated next to the Hamel Lighthouse Exhibition Hall) are seen as the three pillars of Yeosu’s night sea.

How do you plan a route that ties in Busan?

Gyeongju and Daegu pair well with Busan; Yeosu doesn’t. Busan Station to Dongdaegu Station is so heavily served — over 130 KTX and SRT runs a day — that it’s practically a commuter corridor, and Singyeongju Station is also a quick KTX hop from Busan. Yeosu, on the other hand, takes about 3 hours by rail from Busan once you include transfers, which can actually be slower than going straight from Seoul.
