- The single safest bet: Cheonggyecheon Mojeon Bridge and Gwangtong Bridge. Three recent dramas logged official shoots here. It's open 24 hours and completely free.
- Shops and cafes vanish. Public spaces stay. If you don't want to show up at a locked door, build your route around public facilities.
Search for K-drama filming locations in Seoul and you’re hit with the same handful of photos, recycled across hundreds of blogs. Most of them copy each other. A surprising number point to places that have already closed, were never the actual location to begin with, or mistake a soundstage set for a real-world spot you can visit.
But Seoul has actual, official records. The agencies that issue filming permits publish annual logs — which production shot where, and when. This guide follows those records, and nothing else.
What Actually Counts as an Official Filming Location?
The reliability of any filming location claim comes down to one question: who had a reason to know? Actual filming requires permission from the facility manager, and whoever grants that permission keeps a record. In Seoul, four organizations make those records public.
4 Official Sources for Seoul Filming Locations
- Seoul Facilities Corporation — Publishes annual filming logs for every facility they manage (Children's Grand Park, Cheonggyecheon, underground shopping malls, World Cup Stadium, and more), with production titles included. The most granular source by far.
- Seoul Tourism Organization — Compiles verified locations into press releases, stamp tours, and tourism programs. Only confirmed spots make the cut.
- Korea Tourism Organization — Curates the Hallyu Tourism Top 51 Routes (6 themes, 200+ destinations) and the Visit Korea database, packaging filming locations into route-based itineraries.
- Seoul Film Commission — Runs the Location in Seoul database, processing filming permit applications and maintaining location records. Not built for travelers, but it's the source-of-truth that determines whether a place can be filmed at all.
Layer on top the Media Content Filming Location Dataset from Korea’s Public Data Portal — a nationwide open dataset from the Korea Culture Information Service Agency that plots filming locations down to latitude and longitude.
Just How Much Gets Filmed in Seoul?
The scale becomes tangible when you look at the Seoul Facilities Corporation’s 2025 filming log, released in January 2026. Across the facilities they manage alone, 150 productions filmed in a single year. That’s just SFG-managed sites — not the entire city.
The ranking shift is worth noting: YouTube and web content (31 shoots) have overtaken drama and OTT productions (28). Location pilgrimages are drifting from TV dramas toward web variety shows and creator content.

Route-planning tips
- Cheonggyecheon, Gwanghwamun Square, and Gamgodang-gil are walkable as a single loop. You can hit all three in under half a day.
- N Seoul Tower's cable car line gets brutal. Take the 01 circular bus from Chungmuro Station instead — same view, no queue.
- Naksan Park is best around sunset. Walk up from Dongdaemun Station as the fortress wall lights come on.
- First week of April and second week of November are peak production windows. You might run into active film crews — and cordoned-off sections.
Can You Take Photos? Filming Rules at Seoul Locations
The line is simple. Snapping photos on your phone? Nobody cares. The moment you set up a tripod, lighting rig, or gimbal, facility staff classify it as commercial work. Staffed sites — underground shopping malls, Children’s Grand Park — will shut it down immediately.
Location visit etiquette
- Operating businesses are just that — businesses. Walk in as a customer. Loitering at the door for a photo and leaving is bad form.
- Residential alleys (the backstreets off Gamgodang-gil, Ihwa Mural Village, etc.) are where people live. Keep noise down after dark.
- Churches and palaces are active religious sites and cultural properties. No filming during services or events.
- If a crew is actively shooting, follow staff instructions. Unauthorized filming of a production in progress can trigger copyright issues.
Set vs. Real Location: How to Tell Before You Go
Three types to check before you go
- Real public spaces — Cheonggyecheon, Naksan Park, Gwanghwamun Square, World Cup Stadium. They're still there, unchanged, and they're not going anywhere. Zero chance of disappointment.
- Real operating businesses — Hakrim Dabang, Suyeonsanbang. The location is genuine, but the interior may look nothing like it did on screen, and there's always the risk it closed last month.
- Sets or temporary conversions — Danbam, the pub from Itaewon Class, is the classic example. It was emptied the moment filming wrapped. If you search the in-drama name, you'll end up at an unrelated business.
