The short answer

  • For markets, The Hyundai Seoul H Village (Yeouido) and the Jamsil Lotte Town Market are the two anchors — and both are free to enter.
  • Hotel Christmas cakes run roughly ₩90,000–300,000 in typical years. Pre-orders open in late November and the popular ones sell out early.
  • Hotels in the last two weeks of December hit their annual peak — booking in October or November with free cancellation is the play.

This guide maps Seoul Christmas 2026 across three fronts — markets, trees and hotels. Most 2026 season details are not announced yet as of August 2026, so I’ve marked the previous season’s (2025) figures as “typical years.” Night-lighting spots like the Cheonggyecheon Lantern Festival and out-of-town light gardens are skipped here — they get their own guide (Seoul winter lights and festivals).

Seoul Christmas markets: where do you start?

The department-store indoor markets are the heart of it. Rather than European-style open-air markets, Seoul’s Christmas scene is anchored by the big indoor installations that department stores and malls stage just for winter. And since a cold snap never touches them, they slide into any December itinerary without a fuss.

🎄
The Hyundai Seoul H Village (Yeouido)
The entire 5th-floor Sounds Forest is dressed up as a Christmas village. Typically early November to December 31; free, but advance booking or waiting is basically mandatory.
🎠
Lotte Town Christmas Market (Jamsil)
A giant tree, a carousel and market booths set up around Lotte World Mall and Lotte World Tower. A mix of outdoor and indoor.
🌟
Shinsegae Department Store flagship (Myeongdong)
With the flagship's facade display, the whole Myeongdong area turns into a seasonal photo spot. Pair it with nearby department stores and street trees for an evening walk.

How to dodge the crowds

In typical years, The Hyundai H Village is at its worst on weekend afternoons. The quietest window is right after opening on a weekday. At Jamsil's Lotte Town, the outdoor tree looks its best right after lighting (post-sunset) — which is also, naturally, when it's most crowded.

Hotel Christmas cakes: what to order, and when

In typical years, prices start in the ₩90,000 range and late-November pre-ordering is the norm. Seoul’s five-star hotels unveil their seasonal cakes in mid-to-late November each year and open pre-orders. Here is what the 2025 season looked like.

When even ₩300,000 limited editions show up, you know hotel cakes are a fiercely competitive year-end market — and the popular ones sell out before Christmas week. For a traveler, it’s smarter to bundle a cake with a hotel package or lounge visit below than to come just for dessert.

How to choose a Christmas hotel package

The real question is whether you’ll admire the tree from outside or spend the holiday inside a hotel. Center your trip on the Jamsil Lotte Town Market and a mall-connected hotel makes sense; center it on the downtown displays (Myeongdong, Gwanghwamun) and a downtown hotel wins on logistics. The last two weeks of December are peak season, so rates run higher than usual, and around Christmas Day and December 31 room types vanish even a month out.

🎄 Walkable to the Jamsil market

Lotte Hotel World (Jamsil)

In the same zone as Lotte World Mall and the Christmas market, so you can linger well after the tree lights come on and walk back. A safe bet for family itineraries too.

Prices shown on Klook from around $268 as of August 2026. December peak rates run higher.

🍰 The hub of seasonal cakes and dining

Four Seasons Hotel Seoul (Gwanghwamun)

A hotel that goes big on its seasonal cake collection and year-end dining promotions every year. Its location lets you combine the Gwanghwamun displays and a Myeongdong tree walk within walking distance or a stop or two on the subway.

Prices shown on Klook from around $1,008 as of August 2026. Hotel inventory and rates change constantly.

Booking timing, in short: if you plan to stay over Christmas week (12/19–25) or the year-end stretch (12/26–1/1), lock it in during October or November with free cancellation. Seasonal packages (tree-view rooms, cake inclusions and the like) usually drop in November, so you can also book a room first and switch once the packages are announced.
