Seoul’s make-your-own souvenir workshops are a nightmare to compare, because every one of them quotes prices differently. Some fold materials into the figure. Others list only the base class fee and expect you to buy whatever you actually use on the spot. And the output is all over the place — one piece, a pair, or twenty.
So this article divides each fee by the number of items you end up holding, not by the hour. A souvenir’s true cost is what you paid per thing you get to keep. Prices are the listed rates from Klook as of August 2026, converted at 1 USD = ₩1,400, and they shift by date and option. This is not a survey of traditional crafts in general — only workshops where you leave with something you made.
Same-day pickup, time, materials, couple discounts — which one should you check first?
The axis that matters most is same-day pickup. If your itinerary is short, it is surprisingly easy to fly home without the thing you made.

No two-person discount found anywhere
Plenty of workshops market themselves to couples, yet we could not confirm a single two-person discount. Myeongdong leather craft and Gangnam ceramic-cup painting require a minimum of two people, but that is a booking condition, not a discount. The yakgwa class goes the other way: a 1–3 person booking yields 20 pieces per person, while 4–6 people drops that to 15, making the per-person math 25% worse.
Whether materials are included is what really moves the total. At Hongdae Ring University the base is a 2.5mm-wide band of 99.9% pure silver; 3.8mm and up must be bought on site, and engraving and stones are extra too. At the Seongsu workshop, several reviews mention paying on the spot for fingerprint or handwriting engraving and birthstones. The price on the booking screen is the floor, not the ceiling.

Re-sorting by cost per finished piece does not change the order much, but switch to the per-hour rate and the ranking flips completely.

Per item, seal engraving looks cheap at ₩32,000 — but it is over in 35 minutes, so the hourly rate is about ₩54,900, more than double leather craft's roughly ₩25,500. At the other end, Hongdae Ring University sits in the middle per item at ₩49,100, yet you spend two hours there, making it the lowest hourly rate at about ₩24,600. The right answer depends on whether you want a keepsake secured fast, or two unhurried hours in a workshop.
The Seongsu 10-craft entry at the bottom of the table plays on a different scale, because the listed price starts at just US$2.35. It is a kit purchase where you pick one of ten crafts — a maedeup (knot) bracelet, a fan, a wooden box, a dancheong mobile, and so on. The finish is not the same, but if the goal is making one thing on a budget, it is hard to beat on paper. The page simply does not say how long it takes.
Finish a pure silver ring in two hours in Hongdae
About ₩49,100 per ring and about ₩24,600 per hour — the lowest hourly cost in this article. Backed by 134 reviews.
The base is a 2.5mm band; thicker bands, engraving and stones are paid on site. If you want a thicker ring, compare the total against the Jongno workshop, where materials are included. Exactly double the single rate. None of the three ring workshops we checked offered a two-person discount.

This is where the order can flip. The Hongdae pair is cheapest at about ₩98,200, but if both of you go for a 3.8mm-or-wider band plus engraving, the on-site charges hit twice. The Jongno workshop, by contrast, folds materials and stones into the price, so the total is far easier to predict.
Seongsu’s workshop wins on scheduling. It runs every day from 11:00 to 19:00 in 30-minute slots and accepts a minimum of one person, so there is no risk of cancellation if you go solo. The catch: on top of the 50-minute to one-hour class, finishing takes another 30 minutes to an hour before you can pick up.
Make a ring in Seongsu in 50 minutes, collect it an hour later
A 50 min–1 hr class plus about an hour of finishing wait; about ₩67,500 per ring. Runs with as few as one person.
Because of the pickup wait, it only makes sense if you are spending two-plus hours in Seongsu anyway. On a pure per-ring basis, Hongdae is about ₩18,000 cheaper. Listed prices as of August 2026.

Pottery or hanji — how do you choose?
For pottery, check the type first. If you are traveling, the painting style is the only one that fits.
The painting style — decorating a ready-made cup with colors — can be taken home right after drying. The Gangnam Nonhyeon-dong ceramic-cup class works this way: one hour, with the apron, paints, brush and cup all included. By contrast, wheel-throwing or hand-building, where you shape the piece yourself, takes about three weeks to fire, and the finished piece is delivered by pickup or courier (about ₩5,500) — which means a short trip leaves you empty-handed.
How to make sure you leave with your keepsake
- For pottery, only pick products labeled painting or coloring. Wheel or hand-building means budgeting for a 3-week wait.
- Hanji craft is split into 30, 60, 90 and 120-minute options. For bulky pieces like a tray table or a box, check your luggage limits first.
- Seal engraving accepts kids from age 7, so it slides easily into a family day. The ink pad is an on-site extra.
- Leather items are usable the moment they are done. The Myeongdong class requires a minimum of two people.
Paint a ceramic cup and walk out in an hour — no kiln wait
A one-hour session with the apron, paints, brush and cup all included. Minimum 2, maximum 8 people; full refund if the group does not fill.
If you want true pottery — shaping the piece yourself — this product is not it. Solo travelers may not meet the 2-person minimum. The cancellation policy is listed inconsistently on the page (3 days vs 4 days before), so double-check before booking. Conditions as of August 2026.
The Bukchon hanji workshop lists at US$16 and has the lowest per-item cost; you leave same-day with one of a keyring, magnet, mini tray table or mirror. With only 2 reviews, though, the evidence is thin. If your goal is a keepsake with your name on it, the Insadong seal engraving has the thickest track record at 493 reviews and a 4.9 rating.
Do edible souvenirs run on different math?
They do. The volume is so much larger that the per-item concept simply falls apart.
The Gongdeok yakgwa class spends two hours making yakgwa and yakgwa biscuits to pack and take home. A 1–3 person booking yields 20 of each per person, and they keep 10 days at room temperature or a month frozen, so you can split them into gifts. A 4–6 person booking, though, drops the count to 15 per person, making the per-person value 25% worse. The price is not shown on the page, so I have left the amount out.
The cancellation policy is strict. Free up to 3 days before, but from 2 days out there is no cancellation, change or refund at all, and arriving more than 10 minutes late means no participation and no refund. Ages 10 and up, but the adult rate is the same and an adult must accompany. Check the KKday product page for current price and availability.
Finish a card wallet or keyring in Myeongdong in 90 minutes and use it right away
About ₩25,500 per hour — the second-lowest in this article — and finished the same day, so you can use it immediately. Choose from a keyring, card holder, pen pouch or diary cover.
The 2-person minimum means solo travelers may not be able to join. Buying a leather item from a Myeongdong shop often ends up cheaper. Listed prices as of August 2026.
When is it not worth booking a workshop at all?
In four situations, there is no reason to pay for a craft class.
When a cheaper alternative exists
- If the goal is the souvenir itself, buy a finished piece from an Insadong Ssamziegil or Gwangjang Market craft stall instead. A big chunk of workshop fees is the lesson and the space.
- If it is your last day, skip workshops that do not state same-day pickup. Wheel-thrown pottery has a 3-week wait by default.
- If you are solo and only 2-person-minimum options remain, hold off on booking. The Seongsu and Jongno workshops run from one person.
- If you were counting on a couple discount, redo the math. No two-person discount was confirmed anywhere, and a pair costs exactly double.
Think about bulk ahead of time too. A ceramic cup or a mini tray table is a burden to carry for the rest of your trip, and luggage limits need checking.
