The Short Answer
- HYBE INSIGHT museum closed in 2023 and hasn't reopened as of 2026 — the only free part is the building exterior
- Idol makeup and photoshoot experiences take about 150 minutes and run by reservation only
- Group K-pop dance classes can be cancelled if fewer than 5 people sign up
Seoul K-pop experiences are often described with “free” and “paid” tangled in the same sentence. The HYBE building is the classic example — snapping a photo out front is free, but HYBE INSIGHT, the museum that used to draw fans, closed years ago, so there’s no paid way inside at all. This guide separates what’s free from what needs a booking and a payment, then lays out the paid experiences in tables covering duration, difficulty, English availability, and minimum group size.
Free vs. Paid: What’s the Actual Difference?
🏆 Free vs. Paid at a Glance
| Category | Free | Paid (booking required) |
|---|---|---|
| HYBE (Yongsan) | View and photograph the building exterior | HYBE INSIGHT museum — closed in 2023, no reopening as of 2026 |
| SM (Seongsu) | Watch the first-floor SMTOWN media wall ‘PLAY@KWANGYA’ | In-house tour (offered only as a Seongdong-gu Hometown Love Donation reward) |
| Broadcast stations (KBS·SBS·MBC) | View and photograph the building exteriors | Public broadcast audience seats (free but apply & get selected in advance), tour programs |
| Experience programs | Visiting fan cafés and merch shops | Dance classes, makeup & photoshoots, small concerts & fan-meeting-style events |
| Filming locations | Walk through public spots like Ikseon-dong, Heyri, and Paju Book City | Guided day tours of filming locations |
HYBE INSIGHT is gone
HYBE INSIGHT, which once displayed trophies and stage outfits from BTS, SEVENTEEN, and other HYBE artists, closed permanently on January 15, 2023. The space was converted into artist studios and production facilities. As of August 2026, no reopening plan has been announced.
K-pop Dance Classes: How Long and How Much?
Group classes run roughly 60–120 minutes; the 90-minute format typically bundles a warm-up, rhythm training, choreography, video filming, and individual practice. If fewer than 5 people sign up, the schedule can be moved or cancelled, and small-group classes cap at 8 students to keep the coaching focused. Instructors are often former backup dancers for real idols, and classes are taught in English.
🏆 Group vs. Private Classes
| Type | Price range | Duration | Minimum group size |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group class | Around ₩77,000 (≈US$59) | 60–120 min | May cancel under 5 people |
| Private class | Around ₩250,000 (≈US$190) | 60–120 min | From 1 person |
Check if video is included
Some classes include the filming and edited cut of your choreography video by default; others charge it as an add-on. Look for the "video included" wording on the detail page before booking and you'll dodge surprise charges on the day.
K-pop Dance Class (Gangnam/Seoul)
Group classes put you with other travelers, so even booking solo feels low-pressure. Check the video policy and start time before you book.
Prices and availability are as of August 2026 and may vary by date and option.
If you’d rather feel the fan-meeting energy of a stage than learn choreography, there are also random-play-dance and small-concert-style experiences with rookie groups. They typically include a choreography workshop, a random dance set to several K-pop cover songs, and a group photo — and if you buy an album on-site, you can join the fan meeting and autograph session.
K-pop Dance Experience & Small Concert
More of a performance and fan meeting than a dance class. Since specific groups appear on a fixed schedule, check the current lineup on the detail page before booking.
Prices and availability are as of August 2026 and may vary by date and option.
Idol Makeup & Photoshoot: What’s Included?
Sessions run at studios in Gangnam or Hongdae and take about 150 minutes (2 hours 30 minutes) in total. One session bundles professional hair and makeup, outfit styling, and a studio photoshoot, conducted in English, Japanese, Korean, or Chinese. Bookings are usually confirmed within 1 business day, and you can cancel free of charge up to 4 days before the shoot date.
K-pop Idol Makeup, Hair & Photoshoot
It's a reservation-only studio experience, so walk-ins are hard. You can pick between Gangnam and Hongdae, and you receive both printed and digital photos.
Prices and availability are as of August 2026 and may vary by date and option.
Can You Do the HYBE & SM Pilgrimage for Free?
Only partly. The HYBE Yongsan headquarters is free as far as viewing and photographing the exterior, but as explained above, the HYBE INSIGHT museum inside has already closed, so there’s no paid or free way in. The SM Entertainment Seongsu building (Acro Seoul Forest D Tower) has a large LED media wall on the first floor called “SMTOWN EXPERIENCE : PLAY@KWANGYA,” where outsiders can watch their artists’ music videos and snap a proof shot for free. An official in-house tour isn’t sold to the public — it’s only offered as a Seongdong-gu Hometown Love Donation reward (redeemed with points after a large donation), which makes it practically out of reach for travelers.

If exterior-only sightseeing leaves you wanting more, a paid fan tour that includes watching an actual idol show and visiting the label is the alternative.
Seoul K-pop Fan Tour: Live Idol Show + Label Visit
Unlike just seeing building exteriors, this paid program builds label visits and an idol show into the itinerary. Check the booking page for the exact labels and show lineup.
Prices and availability are as of August 2026 and may vary by date and option.
Are Public Broadcast Tapings Really Free?
There’s no admission fee, but the key is that you have to apply online in advance and get selected. For example, the KBS Lunar New Year special recorded on January 17, 2026 opened applications on the official KBS website from January 2–7, with entry restricted to ages 15 and up. Without applying, all you can do is view and photograph the exteriors of the KBS New Building, SBS Prism Tower (Sangam), and the MBC headquarters.

Can You Visit K-drama Filming Locations for Free?
Many real filming locations — like Ikseon-dong’s hanok street, Paju’s Heyri and Provence Village, and Paju Book City — are public spaces you can walk through without an entry fee. They’re backdrops from shows like “Goblin,” “Itaewon Class,” and “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.” Just keep in mind that plenty of these spots are private homes or businesses in operation, so be respectful about noise and don’t trespass on private property.
Where public transit falls short
Most in-city filming spots are reachable by subway, but outlying Gyeonggi locations like Paju Heyri and Provence Village have sparse public transit, so round-trip travel eats up your day. If you want to string several stops together in a day, a guided day tour saves time.
Gyeonggi K-drama Filming Locations Day Tour (from Seoul)
Bundles the outlying Gyeonggi filming spots that are hard to cover on your own in a single day. The stop list can change by season, so check the latest itinerary before booking.

Duration, Difficulty, English & Minimum Group Size Compared
🏆 Comparing the 4 Paid Experiences
| Experience | Duration | Difficulty | English | Min. group size |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| K-pop dance class (group) | 60–120 min | Medium (memorize choreo) | Yes | May cancel under 5 people |
| K-pop dance class (private) | 60–120 min | Medium | Yes | From 1 person |
| Idol makeup & photoshoot | About 150 min | Low (experience-style) | Yes (EN/JA/KO/ZH) | |
| K-drama filming location day tour | Low (mostly vehicle travel) |
When You Can Skip It
If you’ve already done a K-pop dance class or a photo experience in another Korean city, there’s no need to repeat it in Seoul. If your goal with the HYBE and SM pilgrimage is just a few photos, the free route is enough. Paid fan tours and label-visit programs only earn their price if you actually care about the indoor content — watching a show, touring a studio.
