Rain in Seoul is not a lost day. During 장마 (jangma) — the summer monsoon that usually runs from late June into late July — locals barely change their plans, because half the city is reachable without going outdoors. Malls, aquariums, saunas, and cinemas plug straight into subway stations.
The short answer

Start slow with the aquarium — the Beluga whales and the tunnel tank are the crowd favorites — then give the theme park the whole afternoon and evening, when day-trip crowds start thinning out.

The COEX version. Staying closer to Gangnam? Swap Jamsil for COEX Mall at Samseong Station: the COEX Aquarium plus the famous (and free) Starfield Library make an easy half-day, and the mall has a Megabox multiplex for the evening.
Plan B: How do you turn a rainy day into a spa recovery day?
With a 찜질방 (jjimjilbang) — Korea’s all-day sauna complex. Entry gets you sleepwear, towels, hot baths, themed sauna rooms, and a big heated hall where you can nap while the rain hammers the roof. It is the single most Korean answer to bad weather.

First jjimjilbang? Three things to know
Bath areas are nude and gender-separated; the common sauna halls are mixed and everyone wears the provided uniform. Lockers take your shoes first, then your clothes. Tattoos are generally fine at big Seoul branches, but small-town rules vary.
Plan C: What about a cooking class, crafts and a movie?
The rainy day that ends with souvenirs you made yourself. Morning is for food — a Korean cooking class or a kimchi-making session — the afternoon for a hands-on workshop, and the evening for a film or an escape room.

Take the subway, not a taxi — heavy rain doubles road traffic and hailing apps surge. Big stations (Jamsil, Samseong, Dongdaemun History & Culture Park) connect directly into malls, so plan door-to-door underground. Forgot an umbrella? Every GS25 and CU convenience store sells cheap ones. And book capacity-limited activities early: on rainy days, everyone has the same indoor idea, and small-group classes are the first thing to sell out.
