The price of a Seoul hair salon experience is set less by the treatment than by the postcode. Half the bill is the neighbourhood. Book the same cut-and-style in Cheongdam and in Hongdae and the two quotes can differ by more than double. This piece unpicks where that gap comes from, and what the half-price ticket at OLRANG in Hongdae actually buys you.
The short answer
- OLRANG hairstyling experience in Hongdae USD 31.75 vs Jenny House in Cheongdam USD 77.6 — less than half
- What you are really paying for is neighbourhood rent plus a celebrity-portfolio premium, not a different kind of treatment
- OLRANG runs daily 11:00–21:00 — the evening slots are the genuine win for travellers
- English interpretation on site, and options running from a plain cut to cut + colour + treatment
- Cheongdam if you need photo-shoot polish; Hongdae is more than enough for an everyday cut or styling session
How wide is the Cheongdam–Hongdae gap, really?
Straight answer: two to three times, on the products sold to foreign visitors. Line up the booking prices listed on Klook and KKday and the picture looks like this.
💇 Seoul hair salon experiences compared (August 2026, list prices on Klook and KKday)
| Salon | Neighbourhood | Booking price (USD) | What is included | Language |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| OLRANG | Hongdae | 31.75 | Hairstyling (cut and colour packages optional) | English interpretation |
| Jenny House | Cheongdam | 77.6 | Celebrity-salon hair styling | English and Chinese interpretation |
| Hosu Dosan | Cheongdam (Apgujeong Rodeo) | See the KKday page | Hair + makeup + instant photo shoot | Sold as a foreigner-facing product |
| Juno Hair Myeongdong | Myeongdong | 112.89 | Bundled packages such as cut + perm or cut + colour | English-speaking staff |
Juno Hair Myeongdong looks expensive because that figure covers a bundle — cut plus perm, or cut plus colour. Compare single services against single services and the ladder holds: Cheongdam premium salons on top, Myeongdong chains in the middle, Hongdae at the bottom. The full spread of Seoul salon pricing is laid out in our guide to reading a Korean salon price list.
What do you actually get at OLRANG?
OLRANG sits one subway stop from Hongik University Station (5 Yanghwa-ro 8-gil, Mapo-gu, second floor), and is presented as being run by stylists with more than 20 years behind the chair. The experience splits into options that run from a plain cut plus styling all the way to cut + colour + treatment, and you can add nail art on top.
For a traveller, though, the real advantage is the clock. Daily 11:00–21:00 — late enough to spend the day sightseeing and hand over your hair in the evening, which is a completely different routing calculation from Cheongdam salons that stop taking bookings around 17:00 or 18:00.
Check before you book
- Arriving after your booked time is explicitly treated as a no-show — leave slack for navigating the Hongdae back streets
- Colour and perm packages may carry an on-site surcharge for longer hair
- Bring two or three photos of the look you want — even with an interpreter, a picture is the most precise language there is

So when is Cheongdam the right answer?
Two cases. The first is when the result is the point — for a photo shoot or pre-event styling, paying for the finish of a Cheongdam designer with a celebrity portfolio behind them makes perfect sense. The second is when the experience itself is the point — sitting in the chair at Son Ye-jin’s salon is not something Hongdae can substitute.
How to book that, and how the day unfolds, is covered separately in our piece on the Jenny House celebrity hair experience. If you only want the price comparison:
