Most online guides to Gasan Digital Complex were written three to five years ago — and in that window, two of its outlets have vanished. So this post starts not with “what’s here,” but with what’s gone, and what you can still do with what’s left.
The short answer
- Only two outlets remain: Mario Outlet and Hyundai Outlet Gasan. W Mall (closed 2023) and Lotte Factory Outlet (closed 2025) are gone.
- Gasan is close, not cheap. A 3-minute walk from the Line 1/7 transfer station. Want luxury? Head to Yeoju or Paju instead.
- Three things are actually worth buying here — Korean outdoor gear (K2, Black Yak, Kolon Sport), Korean golf wear, and Nike/Adidas/New Balance factory sneakers.
- Mario Building 1 is turning into a gaming and IP mall. An IP experience space opened on the 5th floor in May 2026, with a game pavilion in the works alongside Sega, Koei Tecmo, and Square Enix.
Why did outlets spring up on old factory land?
Because a place that sells clothes took over land where clothes used to be made.
The Gasan-dong area was Guro Industrial Complex blocks 2 and 3 in the 1960s–70s, built on wigs and garment sewing. The symbolic moment came later: the site of Daewoo Apparel, where the 1985 Guro union strike began, became a fashion town. By 1995 Guro’s factory workforce had shrunk to 42,000, and what the plants left behind were fashion-brand headquarters and logistics warehouses.
Outlets opened on that very ground to clear surplus stock, and a whole cluster took shape.
Three decades of Gasan outlets
- 1996 Wonshin Outlet (later W Mall) opens — effectively the first.
- December 2000 Renamed the Seoul Digital Industrial Complex; the Geumcheon-gu side becomes Gasan Digital Complex.
- 2001 Mario Outlet Building 1 opens. Building 2 in 2004, Building 3 in September 2012.
- May 2014 Hyundai Outlet Gasan opens as Hyundai Department Store's first urban outlet (in the old High Heel Outlet building).
- January 2016 Lotte Factory Outlet Gasan opens.
- June 30, 2023 W Mall closes after 27 years.
- September 30, 2025 Lotte Factory Outlet Gasan closes.
In other words, the Gasan outlet cluster has been unravelling since the 2020s, squeezed by online fashion platforms and experience-driven suburban outlets. When Lotte shut the Gasan branch, it effectively wound down the Factory Outlet business entirely, saying there were “no plans to open in the Guro–Gasan–Geumcheon area for the time being.”

Hyundai Outlet Gasan — the more practical bet for foreign visitors
9, Digital-ro 10-gil, Geumcheon-gu. Hyundai Department Store’s first urban outlet, opened in May 2014. Hours: Mon–Thu 10:30–21:00, Fri–Sun and public holidays 10:30–21:30 — it’s closed only on Lunar New Year’s Day.

Mario Outlet — you come for clothes and end up looking at games
23, Digital-ro 9-gil, Geumcheon-gu. Walk straight 200 m from Gasan Digital Complex Station Exit 6 (Exit 2 for Line 1) — about 3 minutes. Building 3 is closest to the station. Open 10:30–21:00, until 21:30 on Fri–Sun. Closed only on Lunar New Year’s Day and Chuseok.

On May 1, 2026, an immersive IP complex opened on Building 1’s 5th floor — exhibitions, limited merchandise, and F&B built around anime, character, and K-pop IP. The long-term plan is to turn the whole building into a subculture and IP mall. A roughly 3,300-pyeong gaming pavilion is also in the works, with Sega (Sonic), Koei Tecmo (Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Uncharted Waters), and Square Enix named as partners.
What this shift means for travelers
From 2026 on, Mario Building 1 stops being "a place to buy clothes" and becomes "a place to go feed your fandom." Its pull as an outlet fades, but for anime and game fans it effectively adds one more destination in Seoul. One caveat: there's still no confirmed opening date for the game pavilion. If that's your only reason to visit, check the official channels first.
Is it actually cheap? — an honest answer
This is not “department-store goods at half price.”
Typical outlet markdowns run 40–70%. Carryover stock in its first year is usually discounted 10–50%, and items two years or older go 60–70%. Mario advertises “up to 90%,” but that really is the ceiling.
Three things to know about outlet shopping
- Outlet-exclusive lines are mixed in. Some brands make separate lines just for outlets. Fabric and finishing can differ from department-store stock, and since product-code systems vary by brand, ordinary shoppers basically can't tell them apart.
- That's why brand-run factory stores are the clear benchmark — like the Nike, Adidas, New Balance, and MLB factory stores.
- There's a real chance the size won't fit. Popular sizes sell out first at outlets, and on top of that you're dealing with Korea's own sizing system.

Korean-brand suits and women’s clothing often run a full size (or more) small by Western standards. Never buy by the label alone — always try things on.
Tax refund — where to get it
- Hyundai Outlet Gasan — tax-refund desk on the 3rd floor.
- Mario Outlet — foreign-customer centers on Building 1's 8th floor and Building 3's 11th floor. Advertises up to 8% back on purchases over ₩30,000.
- There are two types: instant refund and post-departure refund. Instant refunds are processed right at the store with your passport; post-departure refunds are collected at the airport.
- Limits and refund rates change often. Don't take the figures here as gospel — confirm at the desk.
So what's actually worth buying here?
Scan the tenant list and the answer is obvious: it’s overwhelmingly Korean brands, with a heavy tilt toward sports.
① Korean outdoor — K2, Black Yak, Eider, Nepa, Kolon Sport, Discovery, National Geographic. A brand universe built by Korea’s hiking culture, and hard to buy overseas.
② Korean golf wear — Parigates, Master Bunny Edition, Lynx, Challenger, Volvik. Korean golf apparel follows its own design grammar; it’s closer to a cultural product than just clothing.
③ Sneaker factories — Nike (1F), Adidas and New Balance (B1), MLB (5F). All under one roof.
④ Korean suits & casual wear — Galaxy/Rogatis, Maestro, System, Time, Mine, ZIOZIA, HAZZYS, DAKS. Too pricey to buy at full retail in Korea, and unavailable abroad.
Skip the food court — eat where locals do
Gasan’s real strength may not be the outlets at all, but the restaurant density created by some 140,000 G Valley office workers — real Korean office-worker eateries at real prices, not tourist prices.

Chuncheonok (19, Digital-ro 12-gil) is an old-timer that opened in 1980 — bossam sets, buckwheat makguksu, and gukbap, and a repeat Blue Ribbon pick. It stood on this spot long before the outlet district ever existed.
Wolraesun Gyoza (13, Digital-ro 19-gil) is a Chinese spot doing gunmandu at ₩7,000 and seafood gunmandu at ₩11,000, plus xiaolongbao and spicy shrimp. They stock Tsingtao and Harbin beer and baijiu, with five free parking spots out front. Closed Mondays.
If you’re in for a long coffee, head to Inc Coffee Gasan (127-20, Gasan Digital 2-ro). It’s a big bakery café spanning about 600 pyeong from B1 to the 3rd floor, with a circular open atrium at the center of the ground floor as its signature. Weekdays 08:00–21:00, weekends 10:00–21:00. Office workers pack the place around noon, so mornings are better.

The bottom line is simple. If you can barely spare half a day from your Seoul itinerary and you need Korean-brand clothes or running shoes, Gasan is your best call. If shopping is the point of the trip, head to Yeoju or Paju.
As a bonus, you can ride the Gwangmyeong Shuttle from KTX Gwangmyeong Station to Gasan with no transfer. By road you cross just one bridge — Export Bridge — into Cheolsan-dong in Gwangmyeong City, so Gasan sits at Seoul’s southern tip while essentially sharing a neighborhood with Gwangmyeong. And since Incheon Airport limousine bus 6004 stops at Mario Outlet, it works as a final pre-flight shopping run too.
Honestly — when NOT to go to Gasan
Don't go to Gasan if you…
- Want luxury goods. There are none. Go to Yeoju.
- Are expecting classic Seoul scenery. No palaces, no hanok, no traditional markets — just an industrial district and high-rise knowledge-industry centers. Nothing to photograph.
- Only have weekends free. The outlets open, but many local restaurants close on Sundays — Yeosin Jokbal, Palam Khao, Jeonju Dak Kalguksu, and Yetnal Dak-kkochi all take Sunday off.
- Have to move during rush hour. The Line 7 platform at Gasan Digital Complex Station ranks among Korea's most crowded at peak times.
- Need English service. The outlets are fine, but local restaurants mostly run Korean menus and self-order kiosks.
A half-day route — start on a weekday morning
- 10:30 Exit Gasan Digital Complex Station via Exit 6 (Exit 2 for Line 1) and walk into Hyundai Outlet Gasan right as it opens. Start with the sports and sneaker floors: B1 → 1F → 5F.
- 11:30 4th-floor outdoor section. Compare Korean brands on one floor.
- 12:30 Step out of the outlet to a local restaurant, just past the lunch rush (11:40–13:00).
- 14:00 Mario Outlet Building 3 (Uniqlo, Daiso, Youngpoong Bookstore), then the IP space on Building 1's 5th floor. You'll catch this transitional moment when clothes and merch share one building.
- 16:00 Before you pay, double-check the tax-refund desk locations: 3F at Hyundai, Building 1's 8F and Building 3's 11F at Mario.
- 17:00 Wind down at Inc Coffee, and get out of the station before the evening rush (18:00–19:00).
What I verified while writing this
Gasan is one of the Seoul districts where online information drifts the most. Follow a three-year-old blog post and you'll be hunting for outlets that no longer exist. For this article I confirmed each outlet's operating status against the original 2023–2025 closure reports, used each company's official listings for floor guides and hours, and business-registration data for the restaurants.
